Quit Coasting 2025 edition
No, it's not a whole song. Yes, it's just a ringtone. No, I'm not sorry.
So there's this melody and lyric that's been stuck in my head for weeks. It started after watching some tech CEO go on about how amazing his company's AI is, AI is the future, etc. I'm not diving into that whole debate - I just know one thing for sure: I'm a human being, doing human things.
Like most of us do these days, I grabbed my phone and recorded the melody. Then I sat on it for a while, telling myself I was "figuring out the tempo." Let's be real though - that was just me procrastinating, which, regrettably, I've turned into an art form.
Finally, I got tired of waiting on perfection. I thought, screw it - let's just use some loops from a free music program, record it with my reliable Shure MV7 mic, do some quick editing, and make it into a ringtone.
And you know what? I did it.

Sure, my computer's full of other songs I haven't finished yet. Some of them are pretty good - lyrics, melodies, the works. But they're just sitting there because I haven't recorded the vocals or put the tracks together. It's frustrating, knowing they're just waiting.
At New Year's, I promised myself I would "quit coasting." This little project is me trying to live up to that. Every time I think about creating something, there's this immediate "No, not ready" in my head. Mix that with all the heaviness of being an American who cares about history and cares for people, and it can feel overwhelming.
But hey - I turned one small "No" into a "Yes." It's just 30 seconds long, but it's something real that I made.
Maybe it'll help push me toward the next thing.
